Hotlink protection can return ad videos directly; built-in cms supports Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English; administration improvements

I have been preparing this update for a long time. It mainly concerns timestamp and playback-count hotlink protection, which is now fully integrated with the built-in cms. A useful new feature returns a configured ad video directly when the hotlink-protection token is incorrect; the changelog below explains it. Another important addition is complete multilingual support in the built-in cms for Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English, with /tc, /en and /cn URL prefixes. Video and series titles, descriptions, tags, tag groups and categories all support multilingual editing and the corresponding frontend display.

Updates

  1. Added an advanced feature to timestamp and playback-count hotlink protection: for the same m3u8, an incorrect token causes the ad-video segments to be read and returned directly. There are several ways to use this, described below.
  2. Made video-management table columns configurable. Covers, file sizes, play counts and other fields are hidden by default but can be enabled as needed. The previous table was often too wide and required horizontal scrolling. Administrators can now choose the columns they need, such as title, cover, actions and status.
  3. The built-in cms and adaptive preview playback in the administration interface now support transcoding-side timestamp hotlink protection. Enabling protection immediately applies to the built-in cms and administration previews.
  4. Added Traditional Chinese to the built-in cms. All visible content in the cms supports Chinese, English and Traditional Chinese switching, including seo titles, descriptions and tags.
  5. Improved the built-in cms player. The small number of mobile browsers incompatible with the built-in p2p player automatically use another player, preventing an absent player from making playback impossible.
  6. Added search for series to simplify administration.

Ways to use timestamp protection

  • One: Initially leave m3u8 access open, intentionally allowing hotlinking sites to collect it. Keep protection disabled until there are many hotlinking users, then enable it immediately. All hotlinked m3u8 URLs will then play your configured ad video.
  • Two: Expose the hotlink-protection key so others deliberately obtain it, then change the protection KEY at a chosen time so all affected m3u8 URLs play ads instead.

There are other possibilities to explore. Overall, returning entirely different segment contents for the same m3u8 depending on whether its token is valid is useful, and I hope all users try it.
