APP2.0 released with resumable user video submissions and pull-to-refresh random recommendations

While operating the APP, we received requests from users who wanted to contribute videos. I spent 2 days porting administration video uploads to the APP, adding sign-in verification, resumable uploads and chunked uploading. The UI and workflow follow B-site video submissions: tap the upload button in the upper-right of the APP homepage ---> choose a video ---> view upload progress and enter the submission title ---> tap Publish. Another issue was reduced retention and usage time when the homepage remained unchanged for too long. Inspired by the B-site APP, I added pull-to-refresh random recommendations. The current version is entirely random; later it will use viewing history for personalized recommendations, keeping content fresh in the APP and improving retention.

Updates

  • One: User video submissions are now available in the APP, similar to the B-site APP. Resumable and chunked uploads are supported with a fully dynamic, smooth workflow.
  • Two: Added pull-to-refresh random recommendations to the APP, inspired by B-site recommendations. The current version is completely random; later it will use users' viewing histories for intelligent random recommendations.
  • Three: All images in the landscape APP are now served by our own CDN system, always returned as webp. File sizes are reduced by at least 40%, while separate CDN and transcoding-server domains improve stability.

Upload details: This uses the latest resumable-upload protocol, the same as EFVCMS administration uploads. I rewrote many animations to keep the upload workflow smooth. Download the latest APP to try user submissions:

The computer emulator and development debug build reduce image quality and smoothness, so we strongly recommend downloading the release version to try it.
