2019-12-8: next-generation CMS, custom posters, television categories and further updates

Advanced gains many features: next-generation CMS, television categories, poster upload settings, improved mongodb connections and extensively rewritten transcoding logic.

Details

  • Integrated the next-generation CMS, built with Apollo server, Apollo client, keystonejs, mongoose, graphql, vuejs and nuxtjs server-side rendering. graphql communication and refresh-free rendering make pages immediate under low latency, exceeding static-page speed.
  • Advanced automatically publishes movies and series to the CMS. Editing metadata or adding episodes publishes or updates the CMS, supporting a collaborative architecture. Publish finished metadata to the CMS in one action, with unlimited Advanced instances feeding one next-generation CMS.
  • Added custom poster dimensions. Generated and uploaded movie and series posters are intelligently center-cropped to configured dimensions.
  • Added television-series categories.
  • Fixed mobile preview issues; point-based viewing, VIP groups and previews support all mobile browsers.
  • Improved modern mongodb connections for speed and stability.
  • Rewrote and refined transcoding, fixing repeated transcoding.
  • Fixed known BUG issues, including watermark and scrolling-text table display.

Collaborative transcoding architecture

  • Right-click and open the image in a new window for the full diagram.
  • Collaboration is essential, but previously lacking. I spent 2 months designing, developing and refining the next-generation CMS, paired with EFV for hundreds or thousands of collaborators.
  • For a commercial development-learning site, divide content into windows application development, web frontend, web backend, IOS and Android. A Youku-like service might use series, movies, variety shows and anime.
  • Assign two staff to windows development: one finds and downloads tutorials; the other edits metadata. Single videos use simple editing for category, description, title and tags. Series are created with episodes, automatically synchronized to the CMS. Assign two staff to every section: 10 people, 2 per transcoding system.
  • The controller aggregates data across transcoding systems, accessible to administrators.
  • Start the next-generation CMS and configure Advanced integration. Publishing content or adding series by each team automatically sends it to the next-generation CMS, completing the CMS integration.
  • The next-generation CMS administrator oversees everything. This simple example can expand into thousands of collaborators.
